Geriatric dentistry at its finest.

Geriatric dentistry is sometimes referred to as gerodontics. Put simply, it is the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of dental issues in older adults that can occur during the aging process.

Older adults may be especially prone to the following dental problems:
· Xerostomia (dry mouth)
· Tooth decay
· Missing teeth
· Problematic dentures
· Oral cancers
· Worn down dental work
· Ulcers in the mouth
· Gum disease

Diet, current medications, previous or current habits such as smoking and drinking and financial matters can play a huge role in determining the quality of dental treatment that the elderly receive. At Patrick Toms DMD, we’re committed to taking an interdisciplinary team approach to tackling the dental issues that our geriatric patients face. From the comfort of our office, Drs. Toms and Ramsey can handle the majority of dental procedures.
