Implant Supported Dentures

If you are missing all of your teeth, implant supported dentures may be the right solution for you.

At Patrick Toms DMD, we offer a 3-step process for people who want implant supported dentures.

1. Placement of the implant
Dental implants, resembling screws or cylinders, will be placed across your jawbone. Over several months, each implant will replace your teeth’s roots, integrate into the bone and create a strong anchor for the dentures. A temporary teeth replacement may be placed over each implant site to disguise the implants during this integration period.

2. Attachment of the abutment
Once the implants have integrated into the jawbone, an abutment, which is an extension resembling a small metal post, is placed on the end of each implant. Some connecting devises (either for tightening down on the implant or to snap on/off) for the multiple crowns are also attached to the implants. Once the procedure is complete, the gums are allowed to heal for several weeks.

3. Placement of the full dentures
Our dentists will customize full dentures for you and attach them to your implants or the connecting device.

There are several advantages to choosing implant supported dentures over conventional dentures:
  • Implant supported dentures are designed to be long lasting, easy to maintain and stable in your mouth.
  • The bone around your missing teeth is better preserved, because implant supported dentures replace the teeth’s natural root.
  • You can eat just about any food with implant supported dentures.
