Partial Dentures
Partial dentures - either fixed or removable - are often recommended for patients who are missing some of their teeth, but still have many healthy, natural teeth in their mouth.
Removeable partial dentures are ideal for patients who are missing some of their teeth on one arch. While removeable, they still look and feel like a natural tooth, and patients can enjoy a full range of foods and drink while wearing them.
Fixed partial dentures, also known as bridges, adjoin to an individual's surrounding teeth or implants. Fixed partial dentures fill the space created by a missing tooth by placing a false tooth in the gap and adjoining it to adjacent teeth or dental implants for support.
Whether removeable or fixed partial dentures are best is ultimately up to you and your dentist. Still, it is important that a missing tooth be replaced as soon as possible for several reasons. First, teeth support each other, so if one tooth is missing, then the other teeth may shift inward. As this chain reaction worsens, a person's bite changes in response to the pressure and problems with the entire jaw can result. Secondly, teeth deterioration can result if missing teeth are left untreated. To prevent extreme dental problems, missing teeth should be treated immediately.
