Suffering from sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes people to breathe abnormally due to airway restrictions while asleep. Pauses in breathing – lasting seconds or even minutes – are typical for people with this condition. Low breathing is also a common symptom.

Often, these symptoms are noticed by witnesses; it is not uncommon for someone with sleep apnea to be unaware of their breathing patterns, although they may experience fatigue, sleepiness, delayed reaction times and even vision problems all of which commonly result from routine interruptions to their sleep.

The dentists at Patrick Toms DMD understand the complexities of sleep apnea and have received specialized training to assist patients who are dealing with this sleep disorder. Two commons forms of treatment that we recommend are the Thornton Adjustable Positioner (TAP) and Silent Nite Appliances. Both mechanisms are comfortable and effective oral appliances that help prevent snoring and sleep apnea. Patients simply wear them at night when they sleep, and their airways remain open and unrestricted, allowing patients to breathe normally and get a restful night’s sleep.

If you think you are experiencing sleep apnea symptoms and would like to discuss an oral appliance treatment plan, please contact us to set up an individual consultation.
